Art workshop & tour 2020 to Veneto region: May 4-13, 2020

Bring your art to a new level and enjoy the workshop and tour 2020 to the Veneto region in the Northeastern Italy.

Veneto is one of Italy's most charming regions. Along with its beautiful countryside, rivers, rolling hills and vineyards, it also offers a rich artistic and historic heritage.  Set between the Dolomites, the Adriatic Sea, the Garda Lake and Po Valley, Veneto has a variety of landscapes that makes its lands the ideal location for any artist.

Join instructor, artist and world traveler Joe Mac Kechnie for a fantastic 10 days/9 nights that will improve your plein air painting skills. Through painting you will capture your personal interpretation of Veneto's life and energy.

As an immersive cultural tour, handpicked experiences have been planned by your private tour guide Rossella, the owner of Italian Rhapsody and a native from Veneto. Exploring places and living the traditions with a native will make a huge difference to your immersion into the Venetian culture.

The traditional cuisine and fine wines will complete the tour to make it memorable.

Preliminary Itinerary

The art workshop and tour 2020 (4-13 May) is aimed at all levels of artists. Also, for the mornings dedicated to the art workshops with Joe, the artist’s spouses and friends will be visiting historic and scenic places selected by Rossella.

Legend: AG = artist group; SG =spouse/friend group; BG = both groups (artists+ spouses/friends).

The preliminary itinerary is subject to change, the sequence of the day trips may vary. The final itinerary will be given at the start of the tour.

PAINT & EXPLORE: Prosecco Region, Asolo, Bassano del Grappa, Padua, Montagnana, Lake Garda (Sirmione)

Day 1

- BG: Arrival before 1pm in Conegliano and pick up at Conegliano' train station (a 1 hour train ride away from Venice). Transfer to the hotel or B&B by private transportation. The hills around Conegliano are home to the best Prosecco in Italy – Prosecco Superior DOCG Denominazione di origine controllata e garantita and they will be the perfect beginning for this wonderful tour.

Day 2

- Morning for AG: workshop with Joe, painting the landscape of the beautiful Prosecco region. The Prosecco hills were added to the UNESCO World Heritage list in July 2019.

- Morning for SG: cheese tasting at a local family-run cheese farm and visiting the Prosecco area with Rossella.

- Afternoon for BG: scenic tour of hills and countryside between Conegliano and Valdobbiadene (the area where the worldwide famous wine is produced). Private Prosecco wine tasting at a selected local producer to taste the number 1 Prosecco in the world, the Cartizze.

Day 3

- Morning for AG: workshop with Joe, painting the landscape of Asolo. Described as 'the city of 100 horizons' by the 19th-century poet Giosuè Carducci for its views over the surrounding foothills of the Dolomites and plains. Artists such as Titian, Giorgione and Canaletto captured these wonderful views in their masterpieces. Thanks to its artistic and historical heritage, Asolo is in the official list of the borghi più belli d'Italia, 'the most beautiful villages in Italy'.

- Morning for SG: visit the gorgeous Asolo with Rossella to discover the important treasures of art and history of the town that are enclosed and protected inside the medieval town walls.

- Afternoon for BG: visit Villa Barbaro Maser which is one of the most characteristic Palladian villas, UNESCO world heritage, with the inside walls frescoed by Paolo Veronese.

Day 4 Leaving Prosecco area and head to Bassano del Grappa (in the province of Vicenza)

- Morning for AG: workshop with Joe, painting the landscape of Bassano del Grappa. The town is known for its Alpini wooden bridge, grappa (the strong Italian liqueur), the military history of Monte Grappa and locally-produced ceramics. The natural setting is extraordinary, you almost feel as if you are in an alpine village.

- Morning for SG: visit Bassano del Grappa and its ceramics shops with Rossella. Walk through the town while the farmers market takes place in the beautiful piazza.

- Afternoon for BG: grappa liqueur tasting at the Grappa museum.

Head to the hotel or B&B in Padua by private transportation.

Day 5

- Morning for AG: workshop with Joe, painting Padua. The city is one of the most compelling and elegant cities in the Veneto. It is home to an ancient university, historic buildings, arts, botanical gardens and fabulous churches and museums. Three great artists: Giotto (1266–1337), Donatello (circa 1386–1466), and Mantegna (1431–1506) left significant works in Padua.

- Morning for SG: visit Padua with Rossella. Explore Prato della Valle, a picturesque piazza which is the largest square in Europe and originally the site of a Roman theater. Visit St. Anthony's Basilica with its exquisite art and architecture.

- Afternoon for BG: visit the Scrovegni Chapel, the city's most famous sight for the breathtaking frescoes by Giotto.

Day 6

- Morning for BG: visit the magnificent, Gothic Palazzo della Ragione 'Palace of Reason' and the historic farmers market in Piazza delle Erbe e della Frutta.

- Afternoon for BG: visit Palazzo Bo, the historical seat of University of Padua. Founded in 1222, it attracted such cultural icons as Dante (1265–1321), Petrarch (1304–74), and Galileo Galilei (1564–1642), thus earning the city the sobriquet La Dotta (The Learned).

Meals included: breakfast, lunch

Head to the hotel or B&B in Montagnana (in the province of Padua) by private transportation.

Day 7

- Morning for AG: workshop with Joe painting Montagnana and its Medieval walls. Montagnana is a stunning medieval town whose medieval flavor is perhaps the most well-preserved in the Veneto, and surely one of the most charming in Europe. The walls of this splendid city of art were constructed by Ezzelino da Romano and from 1405 enlarged and reinforced by the Carraresi family and later by the Venetians.

- Morning for SG: cooking class on the farm with Rossella. We will pick fresh eggs, harvest some fresh herbs form the garden to prepare delicious recipe "farm to table" style.

- Afternoon for BG: explore the Euganean Hills, volcanic in origin, that are now a regional park, with picturesque hill towns, fabulous Venetian villas and numerous vineyards, producing soft mellow reds and crispy whites.

Day 8

FREE DAY in Montagnana.

Day 9

- Morning for AG: workshop with Joe painting Sirmione, the pearl of Garda Lake, Italy's largest lake.

- Morning for SG: explore Sirmione with Rossella and visit the 13th century Scaligero Castle.

- Afternoon for BG: private boat tour on the Garda Lake.

Meals included: breakfast, lunch

Day 10

Departure from Montagnana to Venice Airport by private transportation or continue the holiday. Arrivederci!
